Uganda’s Adventure Fly-In Gorilla Trek

Uganda’s Adventure Fly-In Gorilla Trek

per person

Overview

This bucket-list adventure takes you deep into the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for an encounter with critically endangered mountain gorillas. You will fly to the Kihihi airstrip in the edges of Bwindi National Park after landing at Entebbe International Airport. The park, which is home to around 340 mountain gorillas, is one of the two remaining protected areas where this subspecies of great ape may be found in the wild. Some of the family groupings are used to human presence and will allow trekkers to trail and observe them as they go about their daily lives from a respectful and regulated distance. When you return to the calm Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, keep a watch out for gorillas roaming directly through the camp!

This 5-day jungle adventure includes tented accomodation that is both luxury and authentic, as well as an encounter with the indigenous Batwa people. For those looking to prolong their vacation to East Africa, this fly-in gorilla safari pairs well with a visit to the Serengeti or Masai Mara to view the Big 5 or the Wildebeest Migration.

Days 2-4: Gorilla trekking and meeting an ancient tribe | 3 nights

BWINDI NATIONAL PARK, UGANDA After spending the night at The Boma, you take a picturesque flight to the outskirts of Bwindi National Park. A representative from Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp will greet you at the Kihihi landing strip. En approach to the camp, drive through the beautiful and green Ugandan landscape, via small agricultural settlements and terraced slopes, and enable your guide to educate you to the local history, culture, and way of life. Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is distinctive in that it is situated on a private concession within Bwindi National Park, and gorillas may be seen roaming straight through the camp. Once you've arrived at the lodge, take some time to unwind before embarking on an exciting day of trekking. After a pleasant night's sleep soothed by the sounds of the forest, you'll rise early to begin your adventure in search of the Bwindi Forest's shy and gentle apes. Although you should be prepared for muddy, damp, and maybe difficult circumstances, a day of jungle hiking is doable for any relatively active and healthy tourists. Expert trackers and guides will bring you to one of the forest's habituated family groups of mountain gorillas, where you will be able to see the group as they dine, forage, play, or interact for up to an hour. When you get back to the camp, treat yourself to a well-deserved massage in the spa. The Batwa have lived in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for hundreds of years and have not forgotten their traditional ways of existence. As part of your stay, you will be able to watch a re-enactment of life as it was for the Batwa in the jungle and engage with these magnificent people. The rest of your stay at Gorilla Forest Camp can be spent hiking, birdwatching, visiting the neighbouring community, or simply relaxing and taking in the sights and sounds of the forest from the lodge.
