Overview

This 11-day itinerary demonstrates that experience is not limited by affordability, providing a high-quality safari and beach vacation without breaking the bank. The route is ideal for couples, honeymooners, and first-time safari visitors, since it uses local planes rather than road transfers, allowing you more time to relax and enjoy your sites.

The first half of the journey, which begins with a relaxing night at a riverbank resort outside Arusha, includes Tanzania’s must-see Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park, offering you the chance to tick off the Big 5 while seeing herds of migratory wildebeest and zebra. Your Ngorongoro lodging is located on the crater rim, providing fantastic vistas, but your Serengeti lodge is a movable affair that sets up in various sites along the course of the Wildebeest Migration, giving you front-row seats to the action.

Then it’s time to exchange the Serengeti’s golden grasslands for the golden sands of Zanzibar’s north-west coast, where you’ll spend four nights in a private spa resort. Hideaway at Nungwi Resort & Spa is an excellent spot to unwind after a week on safari, providing diving and snorkelling expeditions as well as relaxing massages and yoga lessons.

Day 1: In the shadow of Mount Meru | 1 Night

ARUSHA, TANZANIA A night at the Arusha Coffee Lodge marks the beginning of your Tanzanian adventure. Under the reassuring gaze of Mount Meru, sip on the freshest 'cuppa' you're likely to discover anywhere. You spend the night in a sumptuous Plantation Room surrounded by lush green plants studded with crimson coffee berries. Take a stroll through the coffee farm, take the Bean to Cup tour, or relax with a spa treatment at Peaberries. The friendly staff can also arrange trips to Arusha National Park and Ngorongoro Crater, as well as Maasai marketplaces and other attractions in Arusha.

Days 2-3: Search for Ngorongoro’s Big 5 | 2 Nights

NGORONGORO CRATER, TANZANIA After breakfast at Arusha Coffee Lodge, you take a scheduled flight to Manyara Airstrip and then a road transfer to the basic but pleasant Ngorongoro Crater Camp. This genuine tented camp is located in a leafy woodland near the crater rim and provides easy access inside the Crater. An afternoon drive on the crater bottom is followed by a full-day safari the next day. This steep-sided Crater, the world's biggest intact volcanic caldera, is home to the densest concentration of huge animals in Africa and has established its name on unparalleled Big 5 game viewing: look out for elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, and leopard. Back at camp, you'll find a traditional tented suite with a private bathroom and hot-water bucket shower, as well as home-cooked meals served under the stars.

Days 4-6: Front-row seats to the Migration | 3 Nights

SERENGETI, TANZANIA With a flight from Manyara Airstrip to the Serengeti, you'll have plenty of time to settle into your new camp before venturing out to explore. Kichakani Serengeti Camp specialised in the Wildebeest Migration, simply shifting between three separate places to ensure its visitors get grandstand views of the action, whether it's the massed herds on the move, the stunning birthing season, or the raw drama of the river crossings. There is always enough to see on your game drives, with plentiful plains wildlife and predators ranging from big cats and wild dogs to hyenas and crocodiles. Morning and afternoon game drives with skilled guides immerse you in the excitement. Electric lights, an en suite shower, and a private observation terrace with easy seats and a table are all included in your tented suite. Your vantage point: the wild Serengeti.

Days 7-10: A Retreat in the Indian Ocean | 4 Nights

ZANZIBAR, TANZANIA A scheduled charter aircraft will take you from the Serengeti grassland to Zanzibar. There may be a few stops along the way at other lodges, but before you know it, your luggage will be on the floor of your air-conditioned room, and you'll be able to stretch your legs on a powder-soft beach. Set on the island's lovely eastern shore, Zuri Zanzibar Hotel & Resort offers equal parts solitude, leisure, and adventure, allowing guests to do as much or as little as they like. The resort provides scuba diving and snorkelling excursions, as well as massages, cosmetic treatments, yoga classes, and a gym. Sunset dhow (traditional sailboat) excursions and fishing expeditions may be booked at the resort, and the hotel's Spice Garden is a great place to take a stroll. Stone Town tours provide a fantastic cultural and historical experience, while the brief spice tour explains why Zanzibar is known as the Spice Island.

Day 11: The Journey Ends

After breakfast you are driven back to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport for your onward travel arrangements and the end of this tour.
