Overview

Tanzania’s northern safari destinations are among the most rewarding on the continent, and this 7-day safari visits three of the best: Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the legendary Serengeti, where your accommodation has been carefully chosen to almost guarantee you sightings of the Wildebeest Migration in season. It is an overland trip escorted by a professional driver/guide, with good accommodation throughout, beginning with a rural farmhouse outside of Arusha for the first night.

It is a trip that will appeal to both first-time and seasoned safari goers: the variety of habitats means a broad choice of species and scenery. In Tarangire, look for red-dust-coated elephants, majestic ‘upside-down trees’ (Tarangire’s distinctive baobabs), big cats, and riverfront animals. Then there’s Ngorongoro Crater, home to Africa’s densest concentration of big animals, where it’s not uncommon to witness lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant all on one game drive. The Serengeti concludes your safari, with three nights spent at a movable tented camp that travels throughout the savannah to set up in the ideal spot for the safari’s dramatic finale: the wildebeest migration.

This journey begins and ends in Arusha, the logistical hub for northern Tanzania, and may easily be combined with a beach vacation in Zanzibar, off the Tanzanian coast.
