Overview

Tanzania, in East Africa, has a long history of safari, and this action-packed itinerary pays homage to that. Your journey begins in Arusha, the entrance to the northern Serengeti plains and home to some of the best coffee estates in Tanzania. A night at Arusha Coffee Lodge will allow you to sleep off your jet lag and prepare you for early mornings and late nights around the roaring fire at Oliver’s Camp in Tarangire National Park.

Following the excitement of a walking safari and night drives in Tarangire, you will proceed to one of Africa’s most game-rich areas: the Ngorongoro Crater. Gibb’s Farm is your home here, and a game drive around the crater is sure to be one of the highlights of your visit.

Days 1-2: The gateway to Tanzania | 1 Night

ARUSHA, TANZANIA Arusha is renowned as the "Gateway to Tanzania's Amazing Safari Areas." The bustling town is serviced by a busy airport and is home to colourful Maasai marketplaces. After landing, you will be met at the airport and driven to Arusha Coffee Lodge. A gracious historic lodge set on a working coffee farm in the distant foothills of Mount Meru, you can book a spa treatment or two to help you get over the jet lag hump, swim a few refreshing laps in the pool, or simply relax on one of the shady verandahs with a delicious cup of coffee and watch the world go by.

Days 2-4: From Arusha to Tarangire | 2 Nights

TARANGIRE, TANZANIA Following a restful night in your own accommodation, you board a small aircraft for the flight from Arusha to Kuro, where you will be welcomed and driven to Oliver's Camp in Tarangire National Park. A little camp near a large marsh that nearly ensures superb bird and elephant watching. The tents are modest but comfortable, and you may go 'fly-camping' or spend the night in quiet spots distant from the resort for a true flavour of Africa. You'll soon get into the fascinating rhythm of safari, with morning and dusk game drives interspersed with bush breakfasts or sundowners. You may add adventurous walking safaris and thrilling night drives to the list at Oliver's. Walking safaris provide an entirely new view of the terrain; once you leave the 4x4 behind and go out on foot with a trained, armed guide, you will notice insects, birds, flowers, trails, spoor, and other little features that are generally overlooked in favour of larger animals. With your ability to see reduced, your senses of hearing and smell go into overdrive, and you will hear the snap of breaking branches in the undergrowth or smell a cadaver far sooner than during the day. Night drives also provide the chance to view owls, hyenas, leopards, porcupines, and other nocturnal species.

Days 4-6: A world of its own | 2 Nights

NGORONGORO CRATER, TANZANIA It's back to 'farm life' as you bid farewell to Tarangire and set your sights on Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest unbroken volcanic caldera and home to about 30 000 species who never leave its protective walls, instead feeding on the mineral-rich grass that grows on the crater's floor. Game viewing is among the best in the world, with visitors frequently seeing all five members of the Big 5 on a single game drive. You'll stay at Gibb's Farm, which is located on a thriving coffee plantation and dairy farm. Gibb's Farm's warm atmosphere and home-spun welcome make it simple for guests to unwind. In between game drives to Ngorongoro Crater, you may relax with Maasai-inspired therapeutic therapies at the African Living Spa, take beautiful walks in the groomed English gardens, or embark on guided treks to the crater's perimeter wall. In the evenings, sit down to a 4-course home-cooked dinner before retiring to one of the 17 lovely cottages.

Days 6-9: Breath in the Serengeti | 3 Nights

SERENGETI , TANZANIA After two restful nights, you will fly from Lake Manyara's airstrip to Kogatende in Serengeti National Park. This is the pinnacle of safari, including classic safaris, the wildebeest migration, and gigantic herds. You'll get three days to explore this pristine environment from Sayari, a seasonal camp along the Mara River, which is the site of dramatic river crossings by thousands of wildebeest every year. Sayari is ideal for children since it offers a specific children's activity as well as a dazzling swimming pool. Adults, on the other hand, are spoiled for choice, with wildlife drives - look out for enormous crocodiles on the banks of the Mara - as well as guided treks and walking safaris filling your days. Picnics on the plains, beverages around the fire beneath a blanket of stars... After nine days, it will be time to leave Tanzania, but a small piece of this extraordinary country will remain in your heart forever. After saying your goodbyes to the Sayari Camp personnel, you will be transported back to Kogatende for your flights to Arusha and then to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your last trip home.
