The original 1994 Lion King picture was inspired by several sites in Kenya, and many of the computer-generated images in the 2019 remake are based on genuine video footage shot in Kenya. This remarkable 10-day safari provides grandstand views of these stunning surroundings as well as up-close experiences with the creatures featured in the film.

This Lion King journey begins in an award-winning camp in a private game reserve that serves as a key wildlife dispersion region for animals passing through Amboseli National Park. This breathtaking protection area is home to a diverse range of species, including lions, cheetahs, giraffes, striped hyenas, and the huge elephants that Amboseli is famous for.

Then you’ll be whisked away to a remote valley in East Africa’s largest sanctuary for endangered black rhinos, as well as a sanctuary for rescued chimps. You’ll spend a few days in an exclusive eco-camp in Kenya’s Laikipia region’s Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a pristine wildlife area and one of our New Safari Bucket List’s best-kept secrets. Visit Baraka, Ol Pejeta’s black rhino ambassador, and track the Big 5 on daily game drives and nature walks with Maasai rangers.

Meru National Park, well known for another renowned lion, Elsa from Born Free fame, is your next trip. Meru was one of two locations where conservationists George and Joy Adamson reared Elsa the Lioness, and it is also where she is buried. The lovely setting of Rhino River Camp has calm views of the Kindani River, and each accommodation has its own private meditation space. With Meru National Park right on your doorstep, you’ll be able to spot the Big 5 (elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion, and leopard) within minutes of leaving camp.

Finish this incredible safari in Kenya with an award-winning tented camp in a breathtaking location. The pristine Olare Motorogi Conservancy, which borders the Masai Mara National Reserve, was established for animal protection and low-impact tourism. Spend your final days away from the crowds, experiencing private game drives and escorted bush walks with Maasai warriors.

NAIROBI, KENYA You will be welcomed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by your friendly guide and transported to Nairobi Tented Camp. This traditional safari camp is located in the midst of Nairobi National Park, Kenya's most accessible safari location, just 7 kilometres (4 miles) from the capital city's core. Nairobi Tented Camp, a much-needed rest break before venturing into the jungle, is tucked in a beautiful location amid a riverine forest.

Days 2-4: Encounter Amboseli’s gentle giants | 2 Nights

AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK, KENYA Following an early breakfast, you are driven to Wilson Airport for a short flight to the Selenkay Conservancy. You will be welcomed at a bush airstrip and taken to Porini Amboseli Camp, with a wildlife drive en route. This modest lodge has big tents that maintain the beauty and ambiance of bygone safaris. Your tent features an en suite bathroom with a shower, wash basin and flush toilet that is tastefully decorated and fitted with solar powered lights. Game drives with expert guides are available in both the Selenkay Conservancy and the Amboseli National Park. Discover the notable species in this rich wildlife zone, like as elephants, lions, cheetahs, and giraffes. Spend the day in Amboseli, complete with a picnic lunch and breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Back in Selenkay, you may embark on supervised bush walks with Maasai warriors and night game drives, which are not permitted in the national park.

Days 4-6: Discover Kenya’s best-kept secret | 2 Nights

You will be taken to Rhino Porini Camp in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy after a short flight back to Wilson Airport. Ol Pejeta, located in the slopes of Mount Kenya, is home to the Big 5, East Africa's biggest endangered black rhino sanctuary, and a chimp sanctuary. The camp is located in a remote valley on the wooded banks of a seasonal river and features seven roomy tents with stunning views. Spend your days on game drives in pursuit of the Big 5, walking with Maasai guides, and enjoying sundowner cocktails in breathtaking settings. A visit to Baraka the Black Rhino, who was rescued after losing his right eye protecting his territory from another bull, and later lost sight in his left eye, is a highlight at Rhino Porini Camp. Baraka lives at Morani Information Centre and serves as Ol Pejeta's black rhino ambassador.

Days 6-8: Journey to Elsa the Lioness’ final resting place | 2 Nights

MERU NATIONAL PARK, KENYA Following an early morning game drive and breakfast, you are driven to the airfield for a chartered aircraft to Meru National Park. Rhino River Camp is located on the outskirts of Meru in a privately owned forest. Settle into your magnificent home and gaze out over the Kindani River's leisurely flow below, or spend some peaceful time in your private meditation room. Life at Rhino River Camp is all on fulfilling your every want, whether you relax with a massage or simply enjoy the sun near the swimming pool. Safari activities in Meru include bush walks and game drives to see the Big 5, hippo, cheetah, and 300 bird species.

Days 8-10: Escape the tourist trail | 2 Nights

MASAI MARA, KENYA After one more game drive on Meru, you'll be transferred to the airport for a chartered flight to the Masai Mara. Porini Lion Camp, your final stop, is an award-winning facility in the beautiful Olare Motorogi Conservancy, away off the usual route. This private conservation area borders the Masai Mara National Reserve and provides unrivalled wildlife watching in a natural setting. Your roomy tent has solar-powered lights, a private veranda and an en suite bathroom with a hot shower and flush toilet. The game drives in this region are incredible. The Masai Mara's diversified resident game population includes elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, hyena, eland, and gazelle. The show's stars, of course, are the Mara's famed big cats, the lion, cheetah, and leopard. If you travel between July and November, you may be able to watch one of nature's most spectacular spectacles: the annual Wildebeest Migration.
