Overview

Vacationing in the Okavango Delta by canoe, night game drive, and walking safari is a fantastic way for a family with kids over the age of seven to see some of the region’s most fascinating sights.

From Maun, you’ll take a small plane to Khwai River in the northern Delta, where you’ll stay in a roomy family cabin at Khwai Leadwood for three nights. After three nights in this area of Botswana, known for its abundance of elephants, you’ll take a short flight to Chobe National Park’s Linyanti Channel.

Moremi Game Reserve, the only legally protected and maintained area of the breathtaking Okavango Delta, is bounded by the Khwai River and is known for its good and consistent wild dog sightings. Migratory birds, small frogs, and uncommon wildlife like lechwe and sitatunga, antelope that have evolved to life in the wetlands of Southern Africa, will all be pointed out to you by your camp guide. Even the flights between camps will show you a new side of Botswana; the Okavango Delta is far larger and more varied than you could have imagined from the ground.

  • Camp-to-camp flights
  • Canoeing, night drives, and walking safaris, all with spacious Accommodations in Family suites for the whole family.

Day 1 - 4: From Maun to the Khwai River | 3 Nights

BOTSWANA; MOREMI GAME RESERVE You and your loved ones will be picked up at the airport in Maun and flown to Khwai Leadwood in Botswana's Moremi Game Reserve, home to some of the world's best opportunities to see wild dogs. There has been a gradual increase in the number of packs of these misunderstood black-and-gold canids, despite the widespread recognition that wild dogs are an endangered species. The Khwai River forms the backdrop for this camp, which is connected by a network of high wooden walkways and surrounded by fig and leadwood trees. Your individual tent has been decorated to evoke the era of Hemingway's swashbuckling safaris. The days will fly by as you explore the area on traditional game drives into Moremi, night drives in search of nocturnal creatures, and visits to the local hamlet to meet the friendly locals. Exciting nature hikes will also be provided by your guide; nothing compares to the sight of a herd of antelope or giraffe calmly grazing in the grass just feet away.

Days 4-7: From Khwai River to Linyanti | 3 Nights

BOTSWANA, LINYANTI Soon it will be time to say farewell to the kind personnel at Khwai Leadwood and return to the airfield for the quick flight to Linyanti Channel. Travel from the Saile Airstrip to the little four-tent camp of Linyanti Ebony, located close to the verdant Caprivi Strip. You will return to the spacious family tent, complete with an attached bathroom including a tub perfect for relaxing in after a day of exploring on foot. You may 'wallow' in the African afternoon sun like the local hippos, who have their own swimming pool. The magnificent Linyanti Channel wetland is another highlight of your trip. You can find a consistent population of raptors, and a journey on a mokoro (or traditional canoe) is the quintessential way to see the Delta. There is a charging station for camera batteries, but other than that, Linyanti Ebony is a true "get away from it all." You and your loved ones might feel entirely "recharged" after three nights of solitude, other from the breathtaking sunrises and the recognisable call of a fish eagle.
