Overview

This tour, which combines East Africa’s most significant wildlife encounters on one itinerary, begins with gorilla trekking in Uganda’s teeming rainforests before flying you to the savannahs of Kenya’s Masai Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti to see the Great Wildebeest Migration. Then it’s on to the Ngorongoro Crater, which is home to all five of Africa’s Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo – as well as an abundance of other animals, before concluding with your feet up at a coffee lodge with views of Mount Meru.

Flying between destinations minimises your travel time and is less strenuous than driving. There are a number of overnight stops in city hotels to keep the pace simple and convenient – a terrific chance to brush the dust out of your boots and catch up on news from home. Day 1-2 A Night at Lake Victoria | 1 Night

ENTEBBE, UGANDA Your trip begins when you arrive at Uganda's Entebbe International Airport, where you are welcomed by a tour operator and brought to The Boma Hotel Entebbe. The hotel, located near Lake Victoria, is an excellent place to begin your journey. There is a swimming pool, as well as complimentary Internet access and an on-site restaurant, if you wish to work out after a long flight.

Days 2-5: Bwindi Forest Gorilla Trekking | 3 Nights

BWINDI NATIONAL PARK, UGANDA After breakfast at the hotel, you will be taken to Entebbe Airport for your trip to Kihihi. You will be greeted and taken to Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, where you will spend three nights. There's time to freshen up in your room - one of just eight at camp, each with views of the magnificent forest canopy - before meeting the locals and going on an interesting walk with local guides. The next two days are spent with skilled guides touring the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The major attraction is a gorilla encounter (you get two gorilla day permits), but there are other primates to see as well as spectacular birds and butterflies. Back at camp, when the night falls, you can look forward to a blazing bonfire and local melodies, as well as a deep bathtub in your suite, ideal for healing sore muscles after a day of hiking.

Days 5-6 From the Rainforest to Nairobi | 1 Night

NAIROBI, KENYA Today is a travel day: after breakfast, you will be taken back to Kihihi for your scheduled flight to Entebbe. You will be greeted at the airport and guided into a scheduled aircraft to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. You will be taken to House of Waine, a long-standing starting place for many Kenyan safaris. The David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, The Giraffe Centre, and artisanal craft shops are all within walking distance of the hotel.
4

Days 6-9: Fly into the Masai Mara | 3 Nights

MASAI MARA, KENYA After breakfast, you will be taken to the city's smaller Wilson Airport for a scheduled charter flight to Masai Mara. Sanctuary Olonana, a magnificent tented camp on the Mara River in the Masai Mara National Reserve, is your destination. It is a fantastic place to see animals at any time of year, but it is especially ideal for predators. Between July and October, it is home to one of the most spectacular chapters of the Wildebeest Migration: the Mara River crossings. Regardless of the season, you enjoy two full days to soak up the activity on skillfully led morning and afternoon game drives, returning each evening to a camp that merges ecological architecture with exquisite luxury, right down to the mini-spa and isolated swimming pool.

Days 9-12: Under Canvas in the Serengeti | 3 Nights

SERENGETI, TANZANIA Before you go, pick up a picnic lunch from the lodge: it's another day of travel. After breakfast, a morning transfer takes you to the Kenyan border town of Migori, where you enter into Tanzania and the village of Tarime. The flight from Tarime to an airport in the Serengeti National Park is then met and transported to Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp for three nights. The sleek and elegant Kichakani is a Migration-specialist camp that is strategically located to provide the greatest views of the thundering herds and their ever-present predators. Make sure to recharge your camera batteries in your suite before venturing out on two full-day game drives.

Days 12-14: Search for the Big 5 in Ngorongoro | 2 Nights

NGORONGORO CRATER, TANZANIA A short flight from the Serengeti to Manyara, followed by a car transfer, will take you to the brink of the world's biggest complete volcanic crater, the Ngorongoro Crater. Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is set in a forested valley near the Crater's entrance route, allowing you to go ahead of other cars. The views from camp are spectacular, but they are much greater the next day when you visit the Crater bottom on a full-day trip. The Big 5 may be seen easily and frequently at this destination, which also has hippos, hyenas, flamingos, and vast herds of antelope and zebra. Back at camp, you'll be staying in a modest but comfortable tented suite with a private bathroom.
7

Days 14-15: Coffee with a View of Mount Meru | 1 Night

TANZANIA, ARUSHA A flight of less than an hour will take you from Manyara to Arusha, Tanzania's international gateway. You are received at the airport and transported to Arusha Coffee Lodge, which is only five minutes from the airport and has views of the country's largest coffee plantation as well as Mount Meru, the country's second tallest mountain. The lodge provides a very tranquil ambiance, with log fireplaces and spa services, as well as great meals and the best coffee you can imagine. Wi-Fi allows you to monitor upcoming trip arrangements and anything else vital from home. After breakfast, you will be taken to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight and the end of this journey.
